Genny's background in competitive swimming (all the way to NCAA Division I!) trained her in determination and dedication, even when the going gets tough. She brings that fire to sales, and combined with her furniture experience, she’s ready to help manufacturers find a simple, effective solution to the complex world of ecommerce. (Hint: it’s Bear.) Welcome to the team! What are you most excited about as you start at Bear?

Joining the Bear team at this stage of its success is an exciting time. Having worked at a furniture company, I’ve been on the other side of ecomm furniture sales and experienced the challenges first hand. I’m stoked to be providing our merchants a solution to their pain that is ultimately unavoidable. We have an opportunity at Bear to tap into a huge missing piece of the ecomm furniture industry, and I can’t wait to play a role in the solution. 

What drew you to pursue sales as a career?

I grew up as a competitive swimmer and always had my eye on one dream: qualifying for the Olympics. It tunneled my vision as to what I would pursue beyond my swimming career. When I was first introduced to sales, I was able to transfer the drive and determination I embodied as an athlete into my professional day-to-day. Sales has provided me an outlet to continue what I love most: embracing competition and cherishing hard-earned victories.

What are your “words to live by” professionally?

“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.” I am not the type for cheesy quotes, yet with every transition and new start I’ve experienced these words have stuck with me.

What’s your ecommerce marketplace of choice?

Firstly, inventory has been limited across all channels, so finding certain furniture pieces has been challenging recently. However, Facebook Marketplace has allowed me to purchase out of stock items while also buying second-hand — win-win!

What’s your favourite piece of furniture?

The Restoration Hardware Cloud Sofa in Bisque Italian textured weave. No explanation needed.

What’s your go-to downtime activity?

Me-time consists of running, hiking, skiing, cooking, socializing, and of course locating the best coffee shop.
